alice waters' ratatouille

I adore Alice Waters.
I love ratatouille.
I always wing ratatouille when I make it.
It's always delish but for a change
I tried Alice Waters' recipe
from her
I hit the jackpot when my friend Leslie
kindly gave me her CSA from
last week.
In the box:
little eggplants
patapan squash
red onions
I quickly thought ratatouille.
From our own garden I used:
The only thing that was from Trader Joes:
sweet peppers
Oh and fresh garlic that Everett harvested at Ambler Farm camp.
sauteed eggplant and the other Stone Barns goodness

 our own garden toms

The golden ticket here was the brilliant
basil bouquet tied with kitchen string.
In the end you remove the bouquet and squeeze
the basil juices back in pot.
Loads of basil flavor sans the soggy leaves.

done + still colorful

couldn't wait to put ratatouille
on ciabatta bread with pesto
a slice of fresh mozzarella

This time for Sunday lunch on ciabatta with
peppered goat cheese
sliced grilled sweet italian sausage.
Tastes even better a day or two later.
Love A.W's ratatouille.
Blows mine away!

orange is the new black music

A friend who knows me well,
turned me on to this new Netflix produced
I'm picky about what I watch on the screen + tube.
I'm hooked.
It's heartbreaking + hilarious.
The music does it for me too.

window dressing

Two weeks ago I spent a few days in the Hudson Valley
for rest + a bit of work + fun.
I can hardly call the work "work".
It was really part of the fun...
I was asked to design 2 shop windows.
The first for my friend Helen Andersson,
Make-up artist and lead educator at Face Stockholm.
Helen also has an amazing space, Tivoli Ayurveda in Tivoli, NY, where she
gives Ayurvedic treatments and sells her products, Sweet Botany.
Ayurveda is an ancient healing science which uses
natural skin treatments like special oils and crushed sandalwood
to promote one's immunity using special massage.
So much more to it....
oh and I absolutely need to thank
pinterest goddess deluxe
for helping me spray paint
the florescent pink paint on fabric!

 Our feet are forever florescent
The fabric is a gorgeous oatmeal linen-muslin like scrim.

Here's Helen's window:
 from the inside
 out looking in
I also dressed Jill's, Tivoli Mercantile children's shop window.
Jill's shop is a special place...
gorgeous clothes, jewelry, wares for home, special things for kids
much more!
I ALWAYS find at least one treasure there....
Worth the trip!
I promise!
The best part was sewing the new circle flags
in the fab barn I was lucky enough to stay + work in.
Absolute heaven there even in the pouring rain.
More snaps of the barn:

 perfect little kitchen
until next time!
